Taiwan’s trade surplus widened to USD 17.2 billion in July 2026, up from USD 14.4 billion a year earlier and above market expectations of USD 16.5 billion. Exports surged 32.9% year-on-year to USD 75.3 billion, driven by strong demand for machinery and equipment (up 37.1%). Within this category, electronic parts jumped 50.5%, while information, communication and audio products rose 29.5%.

The United States remained Taiwan’s largest export market, accounting for 31% of total shipments, with exports to the US increasing 25.2%. It was followed by Mainland China and Hong Kong, where exports grew 33.4%.

Imports climbed 37.4% to USD 58.3 billion, supported by higher purchases of machinery and equipment (up 55.8%), especially electronic parts (up 61.5%) and information, communication and audio products (up 18.8%). Mainland China and Hong Kong remained the top import sources, together representing 19.9% of total imports, followed by South Korea with a 13.6% share.

Over the first seven months of 2026, Taiwan’s cumulative trade surplus expanded 63.5% year-on-year to USD 114.4 billion.
