18.12.202514:50:08UTC+00Baltic Dry Index Falls for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, an indicator of the shipping rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, experienced a downturn for the second consecutive session on Thursday, dropping by approximately 2.4% to reach its lowest level since November 12, at 2,071 points. This decline was influenced by decreases across all vessel categories. In particular, the capesize index, which is responsible for carrying large cargoes, typically around 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal, fell by 0.5% to a near one-month low of 3,675 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, designed for ships that usually transport between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, continued its downward trend for the 16th consecutive session, decreasing by 6.2% to its lowest point since June 24 at 1,389 points. Additionally, among the smaller vessel categories, the supramax index saw a reduction of 50 points, settling at 1,258 points.
