07.08.202607:21:48UTC+00France Current Account Deficit Largest in 4 Months

France’s seasonally adjusted current account deficit widened to €1.4 billion in June 2026, up from an upwardly revised €1.2 billion in May, marking the largest gap since February. The deterioration was mainly driven by a weaker services balance, as the services surplus narrowed to €5.2 billion from €6.3 billion, and the primary income surplus slipped slightly to €3.6 billion from €3.7 billion. This was partly offset by an improvement in the goods balance: the goods trade deficit narrowed to €5.3 billion from €6.3 billion. Within goods trade, the deficit excluding energy declined to €1.5 billion from €1.7 billion, while the energy deficit fell to €3.8 billion from €4.6 billion. The secondary income deficit was unchanged at €4.9 billion. Over the first half of 2026, France posted a cumulative current account deficit of €6.5 billion.
